Inherent Safety

StarCore’s High-Temperature Gas-Cooled Reactor (HTGR) technology is classified as “inherently safe” by the International Atomic Energy Agency.

We use TRISO fuel, helium coolant, and other systems to ensure that our reactor automatically shuts down in the event of a disruption.

This passive safety brings peace of mind without any human intervention or backup electricity sources.

Sustainability

Our SMRs produce zero direct greenhouse gas emissions during operation and have a footprint of only around three acres, minimizing their impact on the land to which we all belong.

They also deepen an earth-first approach to producing power by bolstering other renewable sources, providing stable baseload electricity for calm or cloudy days

Dependable Electricity

Remote communities often rely on diesel generators, which can cost anywhere from $0.50 to over $1.00 per kilowatt-hour (kWh).

Our SMRs have stable and predictable costs. We provide 24/7 power, regardless of weather conditions or temperature extremes.

Our long refueling cycles also drastically reduce the challenges and costs associated with frequent fuel deliveries.

Helpful Heat

When local demand for electricity is low, such as overnight, our SMR can pivot to producing very high-temperature heat. 

This heat can be used to warm homes and businesses, further lowering household expenses and reducing the community’s reliance on fossil fuels.

Clean Water

Access to clean water is a critical challenge in many remote communities.

The electricity and heat generated by our SMRs can be used for desalination or water purification and wastewater treatment facilities.

Food Security

Many of the most remote communities are considered food deserts, where fresh food is limited and expensive.

Our reliable electricity, high-quality heat, and clean water can sustain year-round indoor farms.

Satellite Access

Each StarCore SMR is connected to satellites for security and monitoring, but only needs a small fraction of the available bandwidth.

The remainder is offered to host communities free of charge. This can be used for remote healthcare, online education opportunities, and enhanced entertainment.
